James Bond and Harry Potter legends are set to star in a new tear-jerking romance film based on a best-selling novel that is ‘for the romantics’.
Pierce Brosnan and Helena Bonham Carter will headline the cast of the upcoming film Four Letters of Love, which is due to hit UK cinemas later this summer.
The film is touted as an uplifting story about faith and doubt, possibilities and near misses, and the wonder of love.
Brosnan is renowned for his portrayal of 007 in four films from Goldeneye in 1995 to Die Another Day in 2002.
Bonham Carter is known for her role as the wicked Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter film series.
The duo are set to take on very different roles in Four Letters of Love, which is based on the eponymous novel by Niall Williams, first published in 1997. The film is directed by Polly Steele, who previously helmed Let Me Go and The Mountain Within Me.
Joining them in the cast are Normal People’s Fionn O’Shea and Ann Skelly, known for her role in The Nevers. Gabriel Byrne of Hereditary fame also features in the film, reports Surrey Live.
The plot revolves around Nicholas (O’Shea) and Isabel (Skelly), who are destined for each other. However, as fate brings them together, family, passion, and faith threaten to tear them apart.
Nicholas’ father, William (Brosnan), returns home one day to disrupt his family’s peaceful, humble existence. He announces that following a moment of divine inspiration, he has chosen to devote his life to painting.
He resigns from his job and heads to the Western coast, leaving behind his stunned wife and son to cope on their own.
Elsewhere, Isabel’s life is idyllic on a secluded Western island, her home echoing with music and poetry. But when calamity strikes and her brother has a horrific accident, silence falls, prompting her parents (Bonham Carter and Byrne) to send her away to a convent school in their sorrow.
The young lovers endure separate sagas of anguish and unrequited love until destiny weaves their paths together. Their meeting is nothing short of miraculous.
An early critique of the film describes it as a “handsome, heartfelt adaptation of the Niall Williams novel. Gorgeous, sun-dappled Irish locations provide the backdrop to a sweeping narrative propelled by destiny, cosmic intervention and the odd miracle.”
They add: “A generation-spanning ensemble cast led by Pierce Brosnan and Helena Bonham Carter should enhance the appeal of a film squarely aimed at hopeless romantics.”
Four Letters of Love is in cinemas July 18.
