Make dull white socks bright again thanks to 1 ‘miracle product’

Few things are as frustrating as when you take out your laundry from the washing machine after the washing cycle is done only to realise they’re still stained or dirty.

While most dirt will disappear after going through the washing machine, sometimes you’ll have to think of alternative methods in order to get rid of the most stubborn stains.

White socks are known to look great when they’re new and fresh, but they will soon have dark stains on the soles from you walking on them all day, which can feel like an impossible task to try to clean off.

Taking to Reddit, one user shared a photo of their white socks that had a black stain on the toe area, and asked others in a laundry subreddit if there was any way to get rid of the stain.

“White socks went through washer/dryer…how can I make them white again?” they asked.

Over a hundred people took to the comments of the post, with many sharing their secret tips and tricks for how they keep their white clothes, including socks, nice and white.

One person explained: “Get a small bucket and always soak dirty socks, separated by white and colors, put a little bit of detergent in the water but not much.

“Occasionally agitate/stir the socks with something like a long handled wooden spoon. Change the water if it gets gross. They are the last load of laundry, hot water and a little bleach are your friends.”

They went on to say that while the method might sound old-fashioned, they had used this method to keep their son’s white football trousers and jersey clean up until he moved out for university.

Several other people also shared their own methods, with many using one ‘miracle’ product to get their socks white again.

“Separate your whites. Run a load of only whites with OxiClean, and if that doesn’t work then you can try either enzymatic detergent or bleach depending on what the stain is,” one person wrote.

OxiClean is an American bleach and whitening formular that help keep your clothes white. An alternative to this would be to use another form of oxygen-based bleaching formula, such as Vanish’s Oxi Action Laundry Stain Remover.

Another person explained a similar method: “I soak my whites every 1-2 months in warm water mixed with OxiClean for whites, then wash after. It works really well for me.”

“Wash in hot with only whites and let sock In tub with some OxyClean white revive,” a third person said, while another person wrote: “Soak, soak, soak overnight in HOT water and Oxygen Bleach. Rinse and wash as normal.”

A fifth person also added: “After finishing the socks, wash floors.”

However another person shared a less complicated method: “Buy black socks like us unique rebels out here fighting societal norms.”
