A family has wowed holidaymakers with the laundry hack they swear by to cut down on washing when they get home from their travels. As seen in a viral TikTok video shared by blogger Katie Moudallal (@katieandariam), her family wash their holiday clothes before they go home.
Katie told followers: “If you’re not doing laundry on the last day of your holiday, then you’re doing it wrong. Why would you want to waste your last day washing clothes? I’m going to let you in on a little secret. No precious time has to be lost.”
She explained they take their washing to a launderette before dinner on their final evening, making the most of the larger machines “rather than spending two days when we get home.”
“So here’s the hack. You find your closest launderette to your hotel, separate all of your clothes by colour and put them in a suitcase each,” shared Katie. “The best thing is that the machines are massive. We did three loads, which would have been about ten in my machine at home.”
The blogger continued: “Now, the elite bit, put it all back into your suitcase and then you are packed, there’s nothing left to do when you go back to the hotel room.
“Best thing about this is whilst this was washing we were out having dinner. I put the timer on for when it needed to go into the dryer. Whilst it was drying, we went for some ice cream and one last stroll to the beach, then put everything straight into the car and then boom, done, ready for when we need to leave for the airport tomorrow.”
Of course, the tip will cost you. Katie shared that she spent €50 in the launderette, before asking social media users if they thought the hack was worth the cost.
One commenter weighed in on the topic: “I could never… I need my washing powder, and putting it back in the suitcase and then in the drawer doesn’t sit right with me.”
However, someone else wrote: “I would pay 500 if it meant I didn’t have to do multiple loads at home whilst the kids then run round in more clothes getting them dirty to just to add to the washing I already had.”
Another fan of the idea wrote: “Yep this is exactly what I do on my last day I paid the lady at the laundromat to do it all cost me 25 euros came home all done loved it.”
Less impressed, a commenter added: “I do washing nearly everyday at home – I will not be doing any washing while I am away.” A different response read: “Oh I wouldn’t pay €50. But we do usually do our washing before we come from when staying in an air BnB. Game changer!!”
