‘Idyllic’ UK beach with towering castles and sea caves a ‘hidden gem’ | UK | Travel

As an island nation, we’re never far from a coastal escape, with countless residents choosing to settle within walking distance of the UK’s vast beaches.

Yet our proximity to the fresh sea breeze means we frequently take for granted the stunning shoreline right on our doorstep.

One beach destination that’s frequently ignored but rivals some of the world’s finest is Botany Bay, tucked between Margate and Broadstairs along the Kent coastline.

This coastal haven is gathering momentum on social media platforms for being amongst Britain’s most enchanting locations, and remarkably, it’s merely 90 minutes from London.

In a TikTok clip shared by Lotteboo, she unveils this secret treasure, explaining: “This beach is only 90 minutes away from London and you’re going to find sea caves that are only revealed at low tide, chalk stacks that tower like castles and the most beautiful fine sand.”

Within her video’s caption, she notes: “Tucked between Broadstairs and Margate on the east coast of Kent, Botany Bay is one of the UK’s most photogenic beaches”.

The shoreline also appeals to thrill-seekers eager to navigate the Viking Coastal Trail, a pathway that traces the Isle of Thanet in Kent and is celebrated for its striking chalk formations, for which Botany Bay is particularly renowned.

Those keen to discover the sea caverns can also uncover etchings and inscriptions left by buccaneers and contraband runners attempting to conceal their treasures over three centuries ago.

When the tide retreats, the shoreline unveils remarkable fossils and rock pools, though visitors must remain vigilant of rising waters as Visit South East England cautions that certain sections of the beach can become isolated during high tide.

Lotte isn’t alone in her admiration for the bay, with countless others flocking to the comments section to share their enthusiasm. One user exclaimed: “I cannot believe this is the UK! Added to the list,” whilst another chimed in: “Botany Bay beach, I’ve been there, it’s beautiful.”

The excitement is equally reflected in Google Reviews, with one visitor who travelled there three weeks prior writing: “Absolutely breathtaking views! From the iconic white chalk cliffs to the peaceful blue waters.

“Botany Bay is one of the most beautiful spots I’ve visited in the UK. Perfect for a relaxing walk, taking in nature, or just escaping the noise of everyday life.”

For those planning to drive to the shoreline, parking is available just off the beach near the hotel; though on pleasant days and weekends, spaces fill rapidly, making Kingsgate Bay and Joss Bay excellent alternatives for a brief stroll across.
