Mum who went from benefits to lottery win makes job decision | Personal Finance | Finance

On May 29, a mum-of-four named Olivia Love took to her social media to announce to the world that she and her husband, Kevin Love, had won the lottery.

After receiving an email one morning saying she’d won on the National Lottery, Olivia was expecting to log onto her account to see that she’d got a fiver from the five Lucky Dips tickets she’d bought. Instead, she got confused as it said she’d won the second biggest prize – £10,000 a month for 12 months.

“And I was like ‘what? That’s weird,” she recalled, saying she screenshotted the website to send to her husband who was at work. “And I was like, ‘babe, I think we’ve just won the lottery.”

She went to get her four kids ready for nursery like she normally would – and returned to the National Lottery website as they were having their breakfast.

Olivia had a message confirming her ‘Set for Life’ win and asking her to call their Costumer Care team. She recalled: “And I was like, what the f***, I think I just won the lottery. That’s nuts!”

In response to her announcement, Olivia was quickly asked several questions about what she and her husband were planning on doing with the winnings.

However, her reply left many in shock. She announced: “In my case, I’ve left my job.”

Olivia used to work part time in a supermarket, which earned her £800 a month. She has four children and her childcare bill was £1,800 a month.

Because of this, the couple applied for Universial Credit to help them pay up to 80% of these costs. But as the couple won the money, they’re no longer meet the requirements for the benefit.

Due to this, Olivia decided to take a year out of work to minimise their childcare costs and spend more time with her children.

Olivia went on to share her plans. She will be taking a year out of work to start her own business as a Wedding Content Creator. The mum plans to take videography and video editing courses to help her achieve this.

But career aside, the family’s day to day life hasn’t changed much. The couple still spends most of their time taking care of their young children.

However, Olivia has also started getting more help around the house. She’s employed cleaners and gardeners – and even has somebody who picks up her laundry.

The pair have also posted videos from days out shopping, where they’ve treated themselves to luxuries they previously would not have been able to buy.

They now do their food shops in M&S and have also paid off Council Tax in full as this is something they “hated” doing monthly before.

Olivia and her family are also planning family holidays to Wales and Scotland. She revealed: “I think my husband and I are going to try going to some of the fanciest hotels in Scotland as a treat.”

People are chuffed for the family and took to the comments section to share their thoughts. One said: “I get the vibe from this video alone that you two absolutely deserve this win!”

Meanwhile, another pointed out just how priceless family time can be. They said: “Even only if you spent all the money in a year… that’s a year at home with your babies.”
