Londoner visits ‘most underrated city in the UK’ – and it’s close | UK | Travel

A London-based travel influencer has praised one of the nation’s “most underrated cities” which can be accessed in just a two hour train journey from the capital.

There’s no shortage of picturesque, pretty towns and cities across the UK, each offering an eclectic, interesting mix of history, culture and charm.

Whether you’re an architecture buff on the hunt for majestic, impressive buildings and structures or a nature lover keen to drink in rugged landscapes, the UK has it all.

There’s many cities that are famous all over the world, from the hustle and bustle of the country’s capital, to other equally iconic destinations like Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool and more.

Some people are keen to explore more of their home country and embark on day trips to nearby towns and cities to soak up all they have to offer.

UK citizens are spoilt for choice when it comes to staycations and local excursions, with one city being praised as an “amazing day trip idea from London”.

Shruti Priya, a travel content creator based in London, recently shared a video on TikTok in which she praised the eastern city of Norwich.

In the footage, the content creator showcased herself boarding a train and arriving in Norwich, where she highlighted several hotspots.

Narrating the video, she explained: “In under two hours, you’ll arrive in Norwich, one of England’s most underrated medieval cities.”

The first scenic destination she was keen to share with viewers was Pulls Ferry, a former ferry house located on the River Wensum, which dates back to the 15th century.

Shruti then recommended exploring Norwich Cathedral, praising its “impressive architecture” and “calm, quiet cloisters”.

The content creator then recommended walking through Elm Hill, which Visit Norwich describes as, “without doubt”, the “most famous street in Norwich”.

Visit Norwich states: “It is also the most complete medieval street in the city. A major fire destroyed almost everything in 1507 but the properties were rebuilt and now we can enjoy a beautiful cobbled street with merchants’ houses, thatching, individual homes, speciality shops and small cafes.”

Shruti also advised viewers to check out Fye Bridge, “one of the oldest in the city”, while stopping off at Norwich market for lunch.

She explained: “It’s one of England’s largest and oldest open air markets with lots of food stalls and local items.”

Norwich’s famed shopping options and Grade II Plantation Garden were also recommended by the content creator.

In the caption accompanying her video, Shruti simply penned: “Looking for a great day trip from London? Hop on a train from London Liverpool Street and you’ll be in Norwich in under two hours.”

According to Visit Norwich, the city is “a place where people love to be and long to return to”. It adds: “England’s first UNESCO City of Literature. From our around-the-world street food, pop-up shops, and traditional stalls to our independent stores and welcoming streets.

“This is a place you don’t pass by, but go to by choice. To a big-hearted city below even bigger skies, and open air, open minds.”
