Cruise expert lists 7 things you should ‘always take’ on onboard ship | Cruise | Travel

Heading on a cruise this summer?

If so you may want to heed the advice of cruise expert.

Ahead of his latest adventure at sea, expert Tim took to TikTok to share a list of seven items you should always carry with you on board.

He the explained the reasoning behind these packing essentials, including one thing you probably would never have thought of for your cabin’s bathroom.

Check the out below before your next cruise to make sure you’ve packed all the essentials.

Magnetic Hooks

“A cruise line classic,” Tim began. As the ship’s cabin walls are magnetic, these come in handy for hanging things such as clothing and any paperwork you might need visible.

Cleaning

If you’re on a longer cruise in particular, Tim suggests taking laundy detergent sheets, highlighting Magic Leaves Bio as an example. “I use these in the on-board laundrette and I also like to take some washing up liquid with me just in case I need to wash the kids’ water bottles and that kind of thing.

Hand Sanitiser

Third on Tim’s list is hand sanitiser, something he suggests taking in a pocket-size bottle as well as in wipe form. “You want a sanitiser that is going to kill norovirus,” he explained. “The one I am using does – it’s called Ecohydra.”

Towel Clips

“If you’re going to use your towel on the sun deck or on your balcony, it’s good to have these to keep it in place and stop it blowing around,” Tim said. Meanwhile, these can also be utilised as a means to drying clothes if you want to avoid using the ship’s facilities.

Packing Cubes

Tim advised that not only are these good for packing, but in a lot of modern ships there aren’t many drawers – therefore they are a useful tool to create shelves or “pseudo-drawers”.

Blow-up Baths

A recommendation for those who have children, Tim says blow-up baths for the shower tray can really come in handy – especially if your young kids aren’t used to showers.

Shower Curtain

Tying in with his first item, Tim closed with a somewhat strange idea – the shower curtain. He explained: “This is what you can use the magnetic hooks with – a black shower curtain.”

Why would you take that? “Well, if you’re in a smaller cruise cabin, you’re not likely to have curtain dividers between the sitting area and the bedroom area,” he continued. “Obviously the kids will sleep in the sitting room area generally and so if you want to section it off and the kids go to bed early, you can block out the light by pegging up the curtain to create your own room divider.”

Writing in response, one TikTok user praised: “The shower curtain tip is a great idea. Not something I would have thought of.” A second person shared their own tip: “Collapsible laundry mesh basket (from B&M). Regardless if you use the laundry room or not it keeps the cabin tidy. Also pack a large bin liner to pack dirty washing to take home.”

Whilst a third recommended: “Shoe holder from IKEA. Use the magnetics and you have loads of pouches to store stuff.”
