A professional cleaner has divulged her method for tackling a household appliance that many of her peers would rather not handle.
We all face the chore of cleaning, as nobody relishes living in grime, but with numerous rooms and items to spruce up, it can be quite the task. That’s why some opt for the expertise of a professional cleaner, someone who knows the ins and outs of thorough cleaning.
Some people may struggle to maintain their homes because of demanding work commitments, while others simply choose to bring in a professional. Whatever the reason, hiring a professional can make all the difference.
Charlotte, a domestic cleaner, shares her knowledge and how-tos on TikTok. In a recent TikTok video, she demonstrated her approach to cleaning a TV.
The cleaning expert revealed: “So there’s two things that most cleaners absolutely point blank refuse to clean or even touch, one of them being Lego, which we all know, and the other being TVs.” She added: “This is my own TV. I’m going to show you exactly how I clean TVs in my own home and in clients’ homes as well.”
For this particular job, Charlotte uses a magnetic duster, ensuring it’s free from any debris or potential scratch-inducing particles, alongside an E-Cloth glass cloth and just a dash of water. She continued: “So you may be thinking why on earth do you need to touch TV screens anyway?
“They don’t even get dirty but as you can see, even though mine is mounted on the wall it is covered in fly poo and this is not something I want to see on my television screen so we’re going to get it cleaned off.” Charlotte begins by using the magnetic duster to clean around the entire TV, removing surface dust and cleaning behind the set, making sure no debris transfers onto the screen, but she said this step is optional.
Following this, Charlotte dampens half of the glass cloth with water and “very gently” wipes the TV screen, working methodically from one side to the other. She emphasises it’s “very important” to be delicate and avoid applying pressure to the screen whatsoever.
This wiping technique eliminates fingerprints, particularly those left by small children, whilst the cloth tackles fly droppings and any blemishes or marks. The cleaning specialist moves across the screen delicately in a back-and-forth motion until every mark disappears, explaining: “And because I am applying very little pressure you can see it has taken me a little while just to get all those marks off but they are now all clear and then I just work my way around the edge of the TV as well.”
Charlotte demonstrated that her television was completely spotless with no remaining marks and crucially, no scratches or damage following her careful cleaning method. The cleaning professional pointed out that there are plenty of screen cleaners on the market, suggesting that those who prefer could opt for one of these products.
In her post’s caption, the professional cleaner stated: “It’s quite well known that the majority of cleaners do not touch or clean TV’s! This is absolutely fine and as business owners we can decide what we are comfortable cleaning and set our own rules and TandC’s.”
Charlotte always consults with her clients about their preferences regarding TV cleaning before proceeding, discovering that many are “very keen” on the service.
Also, she noted some important takeaways from her video: cleaning a TV is unnecessary unless it’s visibly dirty, never spray anything directly onto the screen, and use a cloth that is “very lightly damp.”
