With the spring cleaning season in full swing, many households are preparing to give every corner of their house a deep scrub, including those areas that are commonly neglected during routine cleaning sessions. According to Which? there is one key thing in Brits’ homes that should not be forgotten about when tidying up.
The consumer champion noted that neglecting the tumble dryer’s lint tray is detrimental, as it can impact the performance of the appliance. Which? website read: “A clogged tray restricts airflow and reduces drying efficiency, so your clothes will take longer to dry, using more energy and costing you more per cycle while potentially reducing the dryer’s lifespan.” Moreover, a neglected lint tray could have dangerous consequences.
The lint tray’s job is to catch fibres from clothes during a spin cycle, but it can get clogged up very quickly.
As lint is extremely flammable, a build-up could become a fire hazard in your home.
The lint tray is usually located around the door and the rim and cleaning it couldn’t be any more simple, all you have to do is pull it out, and remove any fluff with your hand.
You can also give it an extra clean by running it under a tap, this will remove any residue that you don’t get off with your hand. However, if you do rinse it, make sure it is fully dry before replacing it.
Additionally, having a peak in the tray’s slot or anywhere else in the tumble dryer is always a good idea just to make sure there isn’t any build-up of lint hiding in the machine.
Ensuring you clean your lint tray will not only mean your tumble dryer will do its job better leaving your clothes properly dried but will also prevent any fire risks.
