I’m a fashion writer – my top M&S picks for summer

The warmer weather has got me thinking about summer outfits and starting to build up my collection of pieces for the upcoming months.  Marks and Spencer has recently become one of my favourite places to shop. The brand’s pieces are of good quality and are reasonably priced. And when I was recently browsing the new summer collection, I found so many pieces I loved.

This time of year, while day-to-day pieces are on my mind, so is the arrival of the summer holiday season. Practicality is essential to me, too, and some of M&S’ textured pieces are handy for taking away with you, as you can fold or even scrunch them up without needing to iron them.

I’ve picked some of my favourite spring and summer clothing items from Marks and Spencer, which you can shop right now.

Pure Linen Wide Leg Trousers – £45

Linen trousers are a key wardrobe staple, especially for warmer weather, as they’re breathable. They’ve been around for years and are something you can wear again and again in many different ways. This £45 M&S pair are 100% linen and have a tailored look, so they’re slightly more versatile than the tie-waist versions. They also have belt loops, so you can add a belt if you want to dress them up.

They come in five shades, but the antique green is the most vibrant for spring and summer, and extra short, short, regular and long lengths – but the extra short is sold out.

Lyocell Rich Floral Midi Tiered Skirt – £40

I was drawn to the pretty blue shade of the Floral Midi Tiered Skirt, and the dainty floral pattern is perfect for spring.

The tiered skirt is great if you like a floaty outfit, and you could make it the star of the outfit by pairing it with a simple white T-shirt and trainers. Or, on a hot day, you could wear it with a cami top and heeled sandals – it would work for dressy occasions, too.

Chiffon Floral V-Neck Angel Sleeve Midaxi Tea Dress – £45

Florals are ever-popular in fashion and a safe bet for spring and summer. The Chiffon Floral V-Neck Angel Sleeve Midaxi Tea Dress stood out to me as one of the most useful pieces I’ve seen this season.

There are endless ways to wear it. I’d wear it on days out, city breaks and maybe even wear it to a wedding, so for £45 you’d easily get your value from it. The flattering V-neck, fluttery sleeves and midi length are very flattering.

Crinkle Textured Collared Shirt – £29.50

I’m always on the lookout for clothing pieces that are low maintenance and don’t require ironing, and the Crinkle Collared Shirt is precisely that; plus, it’s affordable at £29.50 too.

Due to the textured fabric, I’m pretty sure you could scrunch this up in your suitcase, and it would still be ready to wear. A shirt like this is versatile as it can be thrown over bikinis, as a light layer on chilly evenings, or even to work. It comes in sizes six to 24 (although a couple are sold out), and you can choose from cream or light green shades.

Pure Cotton Shirred Midi A-Line Skirt – £29.50

Comfort is key when it’s warm, and the Pure Cotton Shirred Midi A-Line Skirt looks super-comfortable. It’s 100% cotton, with a thick elasticated waistband so you can breathe.

This would be great for travelling as it looks light and airy, and you could style it with a cropped T-shirt or strappy top and sandals come summer, but right now, it would look chic styled with a buttoned-up cardigan and trainers. The white gives you a blank canvas so that you can add pops of colour to your accessories or shoes.
