Shooter killed at Michigan church, at least 1 injured

A shooter at a Michigan church injured one person Sunday before being shot and killed by a security guard, according to local authorities.

Police in Wayne, Michigan, said in a social media post that they responded to an active shooter in the parking lot of CrossPointe Community Church on Sunday.

Officers learned upon their arrival that a security guard had shot and killed the suspected shooter, who Deputy Chief Finley Carter III said was a 31-year-old male.

“Shooter is going to be down in a parking lot. Someone ran him over,” an official says on the dispatch radio, obtained via Broadcastify.

Another male was also shot in the leg, according to police.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and urged the public to avoid the area. The church, located on Glenwood Road, is about 30 miles west of Detroit.

“Our leadership and support teams are on the ground, at the scene, in Wayne, Michigan providing assistance and investigative support,” FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said in a post on X.

A video livestream from inside the church captured the moment the congregation reacted to reports of the shooter, with individuals running from the room and taking cover behind chairs.

“Everybody to the back, please, everybody come to the back. Come to the back,” someone is heard saying in the video.
