Wings and The Beatles member Paul McCartney is back in the US charts for the first time in 50 years – and fans are saying it’s his very ‘best’ album.
There’s a clear reason as to why it is in the charts, but it has been quite a while, not just since the album’s release, but since it was in the Billboard 100.
A sudden spike in sales of 5,435% landed the album back in the Top 100, with a Top 50 spot on the album charts and a Top 25 placement on the vinyl sales charts.
Fans were thrilled to see the album back in the charts and say a recent remaster of the album could be the reason behind its sudden surge in interest.
Album reissues are no surprise, though it may be a shock to see McCartney’s album back in the charts, especially after what was a seemingly quiet week for the album before the surge in sales.
Venus and Mars is back in the charts after 50 years following the re-issue of the album to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The album, which first released by Wings on May 27, 1975, was remastered and published with a half-speed mastering. It has since shot up the charts and established McCartney in the Top 100 yet again.
Fans were thrilled by the increase in sales and surprising chart positin for Wings. One user asked: “Didn’t he just remaster it this past month? Someone was talking about a new version on Apple Music.”
Another added: “Makes sense. There was a huge 59th anniversary listening party a couple of Fridays ago on Spotify and Apple Music.”
A third wrote: “He just released a new half speed master on vinyl and (I think) a new Dolby Atmos mix on streaming. Still, that’s a pretty impressive jump.”
Fans not only praised the “impressive jump” made by the album but credited Venus and Mars as McCartney’s “best” album with Wings, which also featured Linda McCartney and Denny Lane.
One user wrote: “Perhaps Wings’ best album. Another added: “I don’t think the digital stereo version has been updated since the 2014 Archive Collection remaster.
“To coincide with the 50th anniversary, there’s a new Atmos mix on Apple/Tidal/Amazon that’s a big improvement over the previous quadraphonic surround mix. There’s also a new half-speed mastered vinyl version.”
