Last year, Sir Brian May spent his 77th birthday in Tuscany performing a set with Andrea Bocelli, at the third and final of his consecutive 30th anniversary concerts.
In addition to being surprised with a birthday cake and the Italian maestro singing Happy Birthday to him live on stage, the pair performed a duet together.
The Queen guitarist went on to call the concert “one of the most unforgettable moments of 2024”, and now he’s returning to the Teatro del Silenzio for its 20th anniversary in a surprise new performance this weekend.
Bocelli posted on his Instagram account: “The Teatro del Silenzio, the stage of wonders which has lit up under a canopy of stars every year for the past 20 years, will welcome a legendary artist who knows the stars better than any of us.”
Bocelli continued: “On July 26, a friend, an astrophysicist, a brilliant composer, and Queen’s guitar player returns: rock legend Brian May, welcome to Lajatico! To the delight of fans around the world (and mine as well) we will properly celebrate a special guest who has shaped the history of music. Last year, we celebrated his birthday behind the scenes; this year, we’ll honor his extraordinary career on stage, in a once-in-a-lifetime chance to relive his masterpieces. He returns to Lajatico with his iconic guitar, exactly the one he built with his father as a young boy, as he once told me. The same guitar that helped define sixty years of great music, and that I had the privilege of hearing during rehearsals as I paid tribute with one of Queen’s immortal songs: Who Wants to Live Forever.”
