Netflix adds ‘classic horror film’ that ‘stands the test of time’ | Films | Entertainment

Netflix has added what’s been dubbed the “best vampire movie’ to its streaming platform for all horror fans.

Despite first hitting screens in 1985, Fright Night continues to be a beloved classic among horror aficionados of all generations. Directed by Tom Holland, Fright Night tells the story of teenager Charley Brewster, who is known as a “horror film junkie”.

However, when an enigmatic new neighbour moves in, no one believes his suspicions, even as peculiar events start to unfold.

The film’s synopsis states: “Teenage Charley Brewster is a horror-film junkie, so it’s no surprise that when a reclusive new neighbour moves next-door, Brewster becomes convinced he’s a vampire. It’s also no surprise when nobody believes him.

The film was successful enough to warrant a remake in 2011 featuring David Tennant and Colin Farrell. However, it’s the original film that continues to generate buzz.

Netflix teases: “A movie aficionado teams up with a washed-up fright flick actor to take on the vampire next door in this witty and spine-tingling horror pastiche.”

With a rating of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, the reviews continue to roll in. One fan enthused: “A high school monster kid and a local horror host team up to take on a 1000 year old bloodsucker…is there a cooler vampire flick out there?”

One enthusiastic viewer praised: “Fright Night proves itself as a great, spooky film thanks to its excellent special effects, suitably atmospheric score, cleverly handled premise, and a gleefully devious portrayal by Chris Sarandon.”

Another fan confessed: “This has been on repeat for me since I was 5. It’s a classic horror movie that will stand the test of time.”

Yet another admirer stated: “My first horror film at age 7 and it’s still one of my favourite vampire films of all time! They could ever do the makeup practical effects compared to CGI nowadays!”.

A different fan expressed: “This is one of my favourite horror movies.”

Meanwhile, critic Jeffrey Westhoff had previously hailed it as the “best vampire in movie history”, reports the Metro.

Beneath a YouTube trailer for ‘Fright Night’, a follower declared: “Underrated horror classic. One of the absolute best.”

Another added their voice: “One of best vampire movies. Chris Saradon and Roddy McDowell are always been very underrated actors.”

However, not all feedback was positive; a dissatisfied viewer criticised: “I found this movie to be so boring. There’s all this hype behind it but I thought it was really mediocre and bland. Wouldn’t watch again. Actually fell asleep during the second half. The movie poster is cool though.”

Another discontented individual remarked: “Fright Night was far more underwhelming than I could have anticipated.”

Fright Night can be streamed on Netflix now
