Penn Badgley and Meghann Fahy are gearing up to charm audiences in You Deserve Each Other, the latest Amazon MGM rom-com offering.
Fans of Gossip Girl might remember Badgley as the notorious central gossip fiend, but many don’t realise that Fahy too graced the popular teen series with her presence.
In the third-season episode ‘The Lost Boy’, she made an appearance as Devyn, who assists a businessman sought after by none other than Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick).
Though Fahy and Badgley’s paths didn’t cross on Gossip Girl, they’re set to become up-close and personal in their upcoming enemies-to-lovers cinematic venture.
Based on Sarah Hogle’s acclaimed novel, one Good Reads user hailed it as “One of the best romcom books one could ever come across!”
At the helm of this eagerly-awaited flick are romance cinema stalwarts Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn, known for hits like He’s Just Not That Into You and Never Been Kissed, reports the Mirror US.
The movie tracks Naomi and Nick, an engaged duo whose nuptials loom three months ahead. On the surface, they are the epitome of couple goals, yet both have silently drifted out of love.
As the marriage milestone approaches at breakneck speed, they engage in a war of wits, vying to push the other into calling off the wedding. From mischievous stunts to emotional battles, nothing is off-limits. Fortunately, through this tussle, they rediscover their affection for one another.
Badgley has already embraced his leading role, igniting a playful social media skirmish with co-star Fahy. On Instagram on Monday (June 30), the You actor posted a video from New York City, singing Fahy’s praises for her performance in Netflix’s latest series, Sirens.
“Hot city! Hot city! So, ok I don’t normally do this but my wife [Domino Kirke] and I just finished Sirens. Ok Sirens,” Badgley said in the video.
“Want to give her her flowers. Obviously there’s Julianne [Moore], there’s Kevin [Bacon], there’s Millie [Alcock], but there’s this Meghann Fahy, this newcomer this like refreshing, gawky, beauty – love it. Love you.”
Fahy quickly volleyed back, replying: “Penn! This is so kind. Thank you. Tell Domino I say hi. And that her taste is flawless,” prompting Badgley to retort: “Our* taste. Dom says Hi!”
“Oops haha. Gawky tho,” Fahy cheekily added. Badgley clarified: “I meant it as a compliment! Long arms are so gorgeous but historically less featured. ”
Fahy counter-commented: “Chill on the body stuff.” “Whoa I’ve obviously been very supportive and complimentary but this feels like a trap,” Badgley asserted defensively.
“There you go again with that trapping thing. Heard you did a lot of that on your show. I never watched it,” Fahy teased, alluding to Badgley’s notorious role as a stalker in You.
Given the playful back-and-forth between the actors, it seems their upcoming romcom will be brimming with sparks and tension.
