Action fans will love Prime Video movie from Taken writer | Films | Entertainment

Action thriller fans have been told they will love Prime Video’s new exclusive title that comes from the writer of Taken.

Prime Video has introduced an ‘exhilarating’ action thriller likened to a Jason Statham ‘masterpiece’.

Weekend In Taipei, which only saw a limited cinema release in certain territories late last year, is now available for UK viewers with an Amazon Prime subscription.

The plot revolves around a former DEA agent and an ex-undercover operative reigniting their romance during a weekend in Taipei.

Unbeknownst to them, dangers from their past operations are lurking in the shadows.

The cast is led by Sung Kang, known for his roles in the Fast and Furious franchise and Obi Wan Kenobi.

He is joined by Luke Evans, recognised for his performances in The Pembrokeshire Murders, Nine Perfect Strangers, Dracula Untold, and his portrayal of Gaston in the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast.

Weekend in Taipei was directed by George Huang and co-written by renowned filmmaker Luc Besson, who also directed classic hits such as Leon The Professional, The Fifth Element, and Lucy. He also wrote The Transporter and Taken films.

Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics upon its release, many audience members have a more positive view. While they acknowledge it’s not likely to sweep the awards season, they appreciate its commitment to the action genre, reports the Mirror.

An early viewer has drawn parallels between the new release and Jason Statham’s recent hit, The Beekeeper, which was hailed as “an adrenaline-fueled joyride that is Jason Statham’s latest masterpiece.”

Sharing their thoughts, they remarked: “Like The Beekeeper earlier this year, I went into this expecting a by-the-numbers action flick and ended up enjoying myself from beginning to end. What both films also have in common is a script that’s acutely aware of how ridiculous it is and in doing so never takes things too seriously.”

They elaborated: “Weekend in Taipei also has the benefit of a surprisingly solid amount of chemistry between Luke Evans and Lun-Mei Gwei as well as a deft hand by director George Huang and some jaw dropping fight and action choreography (seriously, it’s REALLY good).”

Another chimed in with high praise: “An exhilarating, non-stop thrill ride! Think Bullet Train meets Fast and Furious, with a dash of John Wick’s intense action. A perfect blend of high-octane stunts, sharp wit, and unforgettable characters! Definitely watch!”

And yet another viewer described: “Typical Luc Besson, an enjoyable simple action movie with the chemistry between the two leads. It’s not going to win an Oscar but it’s one and a half hours where you can disengage your brain and be entertained.”

Weekend in Taipei is streaming on Prime Video.
