The Dyson hairdryer range loved by the A-list has up to £70 off

Let’s be honest, hairdryers are not particularly exciting. For most people, it’s a bit of a chore to blow-dry. But then Dyson came along with the first Supersonic hairdryer and it was a gamechanger: super-quick and a lot lighter than your bog-standard chunky machine, meaning no more blow-dryers’ arm ache. I use the original version and while it was a big investment, it still takes my hair from soaking wet to 99.9% dry in a matter of minutes and leaves it looking sleek and frizz-free.

So, I wasn’t surprised to hear the Supersonic range namechecked for creating looks on stars such as Angela Bassett and Nicole Scherzinger at this year’s Met Gala. Plus, it was the brand of choice for Demi Moore’s hairdresser at the Oscars in March to create her long wavy do.

At the moment, you can get up to £70 off some of the Dyson range, and while we may not be able to promise you A-list-worthy results, we’re sure you’ll achieve really great-looking hair.

Last year, a fancy new sister joined the original Supersonic: the Supersonic Nural, which was used to create the defined curls of Angela Bassett, star of Netflix’s hit crime thriller Zero Day, at Monday’s Met Gala. This model has a few upgrades, including a scalp-care mode and memory tech that saves your preferred settings for each attachment. You can currently get it for £329.99, £70 off the original price.

The latest model, the Supersonic R, was used to create Nicole Scherzinger’s chic up-do at the Met Gala. It is smaller and lighter than the original models and has an unusual design. As the name suggests, it’s a curved “r” shape – think, vacuum cleaner attachment tube – which Dyson says concentrates the airflow for more precise control over styling.

While the Supersonic R isn’t on sale, the latest Dyson Airwrap model used on both Nicole and Angela is discounted. The popular styler and dryer has versions for different hair types, Curly and Coily and Straight and Wavy, both of which have £50 off, down from £479 to £429.

Who remembers Demi Moore’s long, loose waves at this year’s Oscars? Her hairstylist, Dimitris Giannetos, used the pro version of the Dyson Supersonic at high heat and high air-flow settings “to give a fresh blowout,” he explained. You can get your hands on the latest consumer version at Boots, with £30 off, taking it from £329.99 down to £299.99.

Dyson also has a version for the same price (down from £359.99), which as well as all the standard attachments, comes with a case and clips. Note that this one is just available in a blue and copper colour combination, if colour is important to you.

If you’re looking for a Dyson alternative, there are plenty of highly rated hairdryers about. The Shark SpeedStyle Pro 3-in-1 High-Velocity Hair Dryer, £179.99 at Boots, credits similar qualities, such as lightweight, no damage and quick drying time, and with nearly all five-star reviews, it’s worth considering. Then there’s a personal favourite of mine, MD London Blow hairdryer, £199. Why is it so good? It’s a little thing with big ideas – long cable, quiet so I don’t wake up my son, no faff or fuss, just a great tool to have in your hair kit.
