Take this quiz to find out if you and your partner are sleep compatible

One out of three Brits find themselves in a ‘sleep incompatible’ relationship, often due snoring or duvet hogging – with a fifth frequently using separate rooms. A survey of 2,000 adults has uncovered that a restless 30% are disturbed by mismatched sleeping patterns, while 20% sleep beside someone who steals the bedsheets or tosses and turns incessantly.

A mere fortunate 17% say they ‘never’ have their sleep disrupted by their partner. Commissioned by bedding experts Dreams, popular radio presenter and comedian, Chris Stark, hit the streets to delve into the trials and tribulations of couples’ nighttime woes. You can now test your sleep compatibility with this revealing Bed Chemistry quiz, to discover if you truly are the dream duo.

Stark said: “We all like to think we’re a dream to share a bed with, but let’s be honest – most of us are probably a bit of a nightmare, from snoring, duvet hogging, or taking up the whole bed… or like in my house, having to share my 4am alarms.”

On a nightly basis, individuals reckon a partners bothersome bedtime behaviour robs them of roughly 48 minutes of sleep, resulting in the staggering loss of 24 full nights’ rest across the year. Worryingly, 17% claim their sleep deficit escalates to at least two hours every night, stats courtesy of OnePoll.com reveal.

Over two thirds of those who reckon they are the one causing the problems feel guilty about keeping their other half up at night.

Chris stated: “The great news is that making a few simple changes to your sleep setup can make a huge difference.”

The study also highlighted that partners aren’t the sole culprits in disrupting sleep. A significant 23% of all participants rated their current mattress as merely ‘okay’.

Among those dissatisfied with their sleeping arrangements, 44% have experienced back pain issues and 13% are irritated by noisy springs. Interestingly, respondents reported using their mattress for up to five years.

Nearly half (47%) of the participants admitted that temperature negatively impacts their sleep. Noise from outside bothers 36%, while 28% struggle to get quality sleep due to uncomfortable pillows.

A representative for Dreams commented: “Sleep incompatibility can be a real challenge for couples.Whether it’s differing mattress preferences, varying temperature needs, or one partner tossing and turning, poor sleep doesn’t just affect rest – it impacts mood, energy and overall well-being.

To address this issue, Dreams has introduced a ‘Sleepmatch’ service designed to evaluate couples’ sleep preferences and assist them in finding a mattress that accommodates both partners.
