Ruth Langsford shares way to hide roots between salon visits

Ruth Langsford learned a quick fix to cover her roots from hair colourist Josh Wood and it has saved her time from visiting salons. The Loose Women panellist tried using Josh Wood’s Airbrush Root Spray (£5 at Boots) but the expert said there’s a product to give her precision touch-up.

The stylist recommended the Josh Wood Root Smudge, £15, a lightweight satin powder to blend away roots and extend highlights. Josh used the Blonde shade to match Ruth’s highlights and cover the “dark circle” area on her crown.

Josh explained to her and demonstrated how easy it was to use the product: “So the Root Smudge, you can re-create a little highlight and you can just blend in, so actually you’re just touching the highlight.”

He picked up the brush and dabbed a small amount of blonde powder before applying it to the roots where it’s showing Ruth’s dark brunette tresses.

“Very pale, no yellow – just paint it in,” he continued. “It’s only going to last… if you shampoo, it goes straight out, but if you’re working or going out and you’ve got the roots, that just completely blends in.”

For those looking for alternatives, ColorWow’s Root Cover Up offers eight shades of brown and blondes but it is more expensive. Although over on Amazon it has been reduced from £29.50 to £21.55.

L’Oreal Paris’ Magic Retouch Permanent Light Brown Root Concealer works for 100% grey root coverage in 10 minutes and it blends seamlessly with hair colour. It’s on sale at Boots for £7.99.

Ruth was overjoyed to see the instant result and later shared on social media: “If you need a re-touch in between your appointments, this stuff is brilliant. We used the Blonde Smudge & Spray Set (£34) which includes…blonde root smudge, blonde airbrush spray and precision brush.”

One fan reacted: “They are brilliant and definitely help between appointments so hair doesn’t get over-processed.” Another said: “Ruth that looks wicked, I need a bit of this. Always use the darker ones for mom, I had no idea the blonde ones would come out so well.”

Others told Ruth that it’s “good to see dark roots rather than greys”. On the Boots website, some shoppers expressed disappointment and said the blonde shade “hardly picked up any pigment”. One added: “It makes your hair grey and dry.”

But a satisfied shopper said the Root Smudge delivered the results and gave “similar finish to sprays”.
