Catherine, Princess of Wales, recently delighted fans with an appearance at Wimbledon, with many drawing comparisons to another beloved Royal Family member. The royal’s appearance at Wimbledon on July 12 was much hoped for but not expected, as she arrived for the women’s singles final between Iga Świątek, of Poland, and Amanda Anisimova, from the USA.
Princess Kate is known to frequent the annual tennis tournament – the world’s oldest – but this year, it was especially poignant after her slow return to public duties following her recent cancer treatment. It marked the first time the mum-of-three had attended an event since cancelling her appearance at Ascot last month.
The princess was the picture of “elegance and grace” in a butter yellow midi dress by Self-Portrait, a brand she is known to love, paired with nude-coloured Gianvito Rossi suede heels.
In her hand, Princess Kate, 43, carried the Neeson Small Square Tote bag by Anya Hindmarch in a neutral colour.
Despite the sweltering temperatures as a result of the recent heat wave, she oozed “pure class” – and didn’t have a chocolate brown lock out of place.
Royal fans took to social media to share their thoughts, with several drawing comparisons and making reference to Princess Diana.
In the comments section beneath one TikTok video, which shows Princess Kate arriving at the tennis match with the words “The Princess of Wales returns” added over the top of the footage, one person said: “Never knew such popularity since Diana”.
Sharing similar sentiments, another said: “Beautiful and so kind, like William & Harry’s mom.”
A third declared: “100% pure class” while a fourth said: “The epitome of grace!”
Another commented: “As an American, I am obsessed with her!!!”
Someone else said: “Princess Catherine looking as elegant as ever.”
Another said: “The Queen of tennis”, and another added: “Stunning!”
In another video also posted on TikTok which showed Princess Kate receiving a standing ovation from the Wimbledon crowd, people made similar references to Diana, Princess of Wales.
One person said: “Princess Diana would’ve loved her so much!” To which, someone else replied: “Wouldn’t she….! This always makes me cry when I think of this”.
A third added: “Epitome of class, elegance and grace.”
Kate Middleton married Prince William on April 29, 2011 at Westminster Abbey in London, after being in a relationship together since 2003.
After their wedding, Catherine became Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge, while William was created Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn, and Baron Carrickfergus.
On September 9 2022, Kate became Princess of Wales after William was created Prince of Wales by his father, King Charles III.
Prince William’s mother, Diana, was the previous Princess of Wales. She tragically died after a car crash in August 1997. She was 36 years old.
