Poached eggs are jammy when you add one utensil to water

Poached eggs can be tricky to get right. It’s not like frying them, popping them in some hot oil and being able to see when they’re done – it’s trickier.

Poached eggs just taste so much nicer on top of your avocado toast, though, and there’s nothing more satisfying than the pop from a poached egg, allowing the yolk to ooze out all over the bread underneath.

But if you can’t make poached eggs, and you always end up overdoing them, one woman has a hack just for you.

Instagram user @dailyoriginalvids took to the platform to say, “I wish I knew this sooner,” as they showed off an innovative way to make poached eggs.

While some who aren’t the best at poaching eggs may already know you can make them in the microwave, many will have realised that they’re just not the same and come out quite rubbery. But with this method, they look delicious.

Rather than cracking the eggs into the boiling water like you would normally to poach eggs, this method involves simply taking two little egg strainers and popping them atop boiling water.

You simply have to crack the eggs in each of the strainers and let them sit for three minutes until they poach properly.

You’ll need to put a lid on top of them, however, so the heat can cook them properly. Otherwise, they’d be too runny.

The egg will “immediately start to cook,” as per Food & Wine’s YouTube video, and he recommended that it might take three to five minutes – you’ll have to judge it for yourself.

Once the egg is ready, you should be able to transfer it onto the dish of your choice, and it should have a delightfully jammy yolk.

In the comments, someone wrote: “This is wonderful! I love poached eggs and am definitely trying this”.

But others said that there was an easier way, sharing: “Literally just add vinegar to the water, add the egg to the water, stir the water, pull out the egg, egg is done, no extra cleaning required, especially with a fine mesh strainer, is so annoying”.

Another said: “If you apply a bit of Oil in the strainer, it will be easy to remove and easy to clean as well”.

Somebody said: “It’s the strainer mess to clean afterwards that makes this a hard pass for me”.

But others praised it, saying it had made things “easier” for them, as they weren’t able to do it the ‘traditional’ way, so this meant that they could enjoy poached eggs from the comfort of their own home.

Would you try this method of poaching eggs? Let us know in the comments…
