When it comes to treats, it’s fair to say pizza is up there with a lot of people’s favourites.
After all, it’s tasty, delicious and can be topped with all sorts of tempting ingredients. But, when it comes to making a pizza, this is where some people may find things a bit tricky.
As National Pizza Day takes place today (February 9), we thought it’d be a good idea to share a simple way to pull it off, and nobody knows his stuff more than Gordon Ramsay when it comes to food.
In a clip on TikTok, he showed the ultimate way to whip up a lovely pizza. According to him, it’s all about keeping things simple and following the “30 second rule”.
His tip has since gone viral, as the video has racked up more than 200,000 views. The advice is simple enough for anyone to follow.
Demonstrating what to do, Gordon said: “The secret is in the execution. A touch of semolina, and use the back of your hands, and all I’m doing is letting the dough stretch.
“Any big blisters, just burst, ok? You’ve got to be quick and accurate on top of here. Up and over, take your sauce into the middle. Now we want a centimetre from the outside.
“From there, a little touch of mozzarella. Don’t go crazy on the garnish, yeah? Be smart, and in she goes.
“Now watch, we cook with our eyes now. Every 30 seconds you’ve got to turn that. As it starts to blister, in, lift gently, manipulate – all the way under and turn around. 90 seconds guys, and then out.”
Once cooked, Gordon tops his pizza with fresh basil and seasons it with some rock salt too. A drizzle of olive oil, and it’s good to serve.
One person said: “That man was licking his lips.” Another added: “As an Italian, I approve that.”
A third replied: “Nothing is better than wood fire pizza with basil on top.” Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: “Good pizza. Tiny for an Italian like myself, but a good pizza.”
Obviously, you need a pizza oven to be able to cook a pizza like Gordon. But his tip is essential when it comes to cooking an authentic Italian pizza.
If you haven’t got a pizza oven, some people say you can also cook a homemade pizza in a normal oven by using a baking sheet, baking steel or iron rack. You can also use parchment paper or greaseproof paper to help avoid sticking.
A simple way to do it is by using a preheated half sheet pan, but it can cool down quickly. To do this, use a rimmed baking sheet and put it on the lowest shelf of your oven before preheating. This will make it much easier to slide the pizza in and out of the oven.
