‘Neighbour threatened drastic action over colour I painted house’ | UK | News

A man has been praised for his colourful revenge on an ‘entitled’ neighbour who tried to sue him after he repainted his house.

The man explained how he moved into a new neighbourhood and decided to repaint the outside of his house as part of his renovation project.

Rather than sticking to the same colour scheme throughout the street, he opted for colours that better suited his taste but says they remained ‘neutral’ and in keeping with the neighbourhood.

However, not everyone was impressed with his renovation works – and one neighbour even confronted him about it.

The man said on Reddit: “I moved into a house and had it painted to a new colour scheme. It looked nice, was a little different than the surrounding homes but it wasn’t pink and yellow, or anything stupid.

“Some whackadoodle across the street came over and said it was horrible looking and told me to change it.

“Well, I wondered if maybe I wasn’t thinking right, so I asked four other neighbours and none of them had an issue at all, thought it was a nice improvement.”

He told him that everyone else on the street liked the colour he painted his house – but this just made the neighbour even angrier.

He added: “He told me, ‘I’ve got deep pockets, if you don’t change it I’m getting a lawyer!’ I told him to go ahead and have a nice day.

“After a few lawyers told him he had no case, he tried to get an HOA (Home Owners Association) formed. Held meetings, paid someone to draw up the proposed rules, etc. no one else would agree so his investment was a waste and he just wouldn’t stop b****ing about it.”

Unbeknownst the the neighbour, the man owned several rental properties in the street and was hunting for more to add to his portfolio.

So when the house next to the ‘entitled’ neighbour went on the market, he swooped in to buy it.

“When the houses next door to him were selling, I ended up buying both of them but never told him I owned either,” he added.

“I had picked up the first one in early fall and the other in the winter, so when summer rolled around I had both of them painted the exact same as mine. He was sooooo p***ed.

Commenting on his post, one user said: “My neighbours painted their house all dark blue minus one spot they ran out of paint and painted it brown.

“Personally I hate it and it sets off my OCD. So you know what I do? Mind my damn business and not look at it.

Another user added: “Even if he had formed an HOA, you would have had to willingly join, otherwise you were not part of it.

A third user said: “I love this. I had a friend, we are no longer friends because of shit like this, she and I were driving around town doing errands together, she pointed to a house (a lovely well kept home in a nice neighbourhood) and complained about the colour.

“It was a dark grey with white trim, I murmured something like not my first choice but it’s not bad.

“Then, another day, she pointed out a house in her own neighbourhood that was painted a dark green, fresh new paint job, she hated it. I didn’t agree with her.

“I just don’t get why something that doesn’t or shouldn’t affect them gets some folks all riled up. Incredible that he wanted to start an HOA over this!”
