1. Passengers not having their pass ready before boarding the bus
The London bus driver said: “You know when a passenger’s standing up at the stop and they get on a bus and that’s when they decide to look for their pass, like the Oyster? That is annoying, like what were you waiting for all this time?”
Snoopio said passengers waiting at a bus stop have enough time to get their pass out before getting on the vehicle. Having your pass ready as soon as you get on the bus makes it quicker for drivers to move onto the next stop.
2. When passengers running for the bus don’t thank the driver for waiting for them
Snoopio’s second pet peeve occurs when he sees a passenger running for the bus, so he decides to wait for them – but they don’t say thank you to him when they get on. He finds this one very annoying and urges passengers who are guilty of this to “have some manners.”
Lots of people run for a bus, particularly if they need to get to their destination by a certain time, but drivers don’t always wait in this situation. Those who do appreciate when passengers thank them for allowing them to get on the bus.
3. Pressing the stop bell several times and then nobody gets off the bus
Snoopio added: “Pressing the bus stop bell several times and no-one gets up for the stop. You know how many times I could have been ahead of where I am but you got me stopping, opening doors, letting on ghosts?”
When drivers hear that someone has rang the bus stop bell, it’s normal for them to assume that a passenger or multiple passengers will be getting off at the next stop so they open the bus doors. However, it is irritating when no passengers leave the bus as this slows drivers down.
4. Knocking on a window
The London bus driver continued: “You know, like when you’re just moving up a little bit closer, like just to fill out the whole bus stop and then passengers start knocking on the window?” He finds it annoying when passengers unnecessarily start knocking on the window to be let on the bus.
The typical way passengers at a stop let drivers know that they would like to get on the bus is by extending their arm out in front of them.
5. When a passenger at the bus tells the driver that someone’s running for the bus
Snoopio finds it annoying when he sees someone running to get on the bus and someone at the bus stop signals to him that a passenger is trying to get on when he has already realised this himself. He wondered if people who do this are “trying to play hero” by wanting the person running for the bus to thank them for making this known to the driver.
He thinks it would be better if the person at the stop just got on the bus and let him wait for the other person on his own time.
