I’ve used these £20 straighteners for years – better than GHDs

Anyone looking to invest in hair straighteners at the moment is in luck. I’ve spotted my trusty Remington pair in the Amazon Prime Day sale – and they are 75% off, cheaper than I’ve seen at any other retailer.

I’ve tried a range of brands over the years to tame my thick, frizzy hair, but I found products, even an expensive GHD model, stopped being effective after a couple of years. However, the Remingtons are still going strong after five years and work just as they always did, despite daily use.

At the time of writing, they are reduced from £79.99 to £19.66, a saving of 75%.

Remember, to take advantage of this deal, you will need to sign up to Prime. New members can get a 30-day free trial, which you can use to shop the sale this week and then cancel for no charge before the regular £8.99 monthly price kicks in.

These heat up within 15 seconds so it’s perfect for when you’re rushing around in the morning before work, plus they automatically shut off after 60 seconds so there’s no danger of you suddenly realising you’ve left them when you’ve left the house.

There’s a digital heat setting that ranges from 150-230 degrees, but I find 190C a happy medium to keep my hair in place all day.

The plates are infused with Moroccan argan oil with vitamin E, which  Remington says gives extra shine  While this did perhaps make a difference early on, I found the effect lessened after a few months of use, but it hasn’t impacted how well it keeps my hair looking all day. My trusty straighteners have been all over the world with me and work anywhere thanks to the worldwide voltage, no holiday hair disasters for me.

For me, these are better than GHDs. I’ve learnt firsthand how spending upwards of £120 on straighteners doesn’t mean they’ll last longer than 18 months, so for £20 you’re getting an absolute steal. I also find GHDs to be too thin and flimsy for my thick hair and find I don’t feel like I have enough control when running them through layers. However the Remingtons seem to strike a balance between getting enough tension to mould my hair, while not pulling it.

And it seems I’m not the only one who feels this way – there are tonnes of five star reviews online from those who agree.

One reads: “Excellent value for money. Great for fine straight hair. Much better than the very expensive one I had before.”

Another wrote: “Excellent straighteners for the price. Leave your hair shiny and silky throughout the day and can be used to style hair easily.”

“Great straighteners, leave my hair really smooth and straight,” a third said.

However, not everyone agreed and some said the product “didn’t work great” on finer hair, while one reviewer said they can feel “flimsy”.
