‘I visited one of the most expensive streets in UK but it has an issue’

A man shared that he went to a road that was once “the most expensive in the UK,” saying that it’ll still cost you “mega money” if you want to live there. But he wasn’t wholly complimentary of the experience he had while he was there.

Phil, who posts as @philc84 on TikTok, was in Sandbanks, in Poole, Dorset, saying that it’s “infamous” for how “exclusive” it is to live there.

He said that “only the most successful people ever will” live there, but he said that as people become wealthier and wealthier, it seems to be getting “left behind” a little bit. “I mean, it is still bloody expensive, but a conventional little lottery win would get you in,” he explained.

Phil shared that the area is “not big” and is basically a small bit of land with “a single road running through it, a hotel at either end, a harbour on one side, a beach on the other, a couple of restaurants in the middle, a yacht club, and then a butt tonne of expensive apartments and houses”.

He then asked: “But surely for millions of pounds you get some privacy?” Sadly, according to Phil, it appears that you do not.

Unfortunately, he said “not in the slightest” when it came to getting privacy, because “there’s a massive car park for the beach, an open top bus full of tourists peering through your windows every hour,” but there was something even worse.

He said the “biggest pain” was the “ferry at the end of Sandbanks” because it causes such bad traffic jams and they’re “constant”.

Phil also noted that the sun was out when he was there, so it was “beautiful,” but he said that when it rains, it seems “bleak”.

He explained: “It is still a rich area, but the celebrities who live down here you’d barely trouble for a photo, you don’t hear the scream of supercars, and there’s no one walking around with close protection. It’s just a very expensive road, like thousands of others in the country, but this one has a beach on the English Channel”.

Phil then went on to joke that “another problem” is that the beach attracts “scamps,” aka rogues, “from the local town of Poole just down the road”. He said that you shouldn’t be “offended for the people of Poole” as they know they just visit the beach to “cause mischief”.

He continued by saying that John Lennon put “Sandbanks on the map” when he bought his aunt a house there, and for “decades, it was the go-to for millionaires in the south”.

“But in this world where the mega-wealthy have breakfast in London, lunch in Monaco, and dinner in Dubai, spending a fortune to live on a beach on the English Channel so you can see the sea but still get to London for work feels a little bit old-fashioned,” he said.

He joked that because they’re “just millionaires and not billionaires,” the atmosphere feels better, though, and there is “some sense of community” in the area.

He also said he likes the area because it’s “achievable wealth” rather than insane wealth, so if you win the lottery or have a “few good years in business,” you may be able to afford to live there.

But he ended the video by saying: “If I spent six million pounds on a house for an open-top bus to drive by every half an hour full of tourists gawking in at me through the window, I’d start to question what success actually is”.
