A lavish £46 million wedding held at France’s historic Palace of Versailles has ignited furious backlash online after details of the extravagant celebration went viral.
The bride, heiress Madelaine Brockway, and her groom, Jacob LaGrone, spared no expense for their opulent nuptials, which included a rehearsal dinner at the Paris Opera House, breathtaking decor, and live entertainment from US chart-toppers Maroon 5.
The wedding first gained attention in 2023 after a TikTok video posted by @sav4president showcased the event’s sheer extravagance.
Social media users were quick to express both admiration and disbelief. One stunned commenter wrote: “Paris opera house, gardens, stunning decor AND Maroon 5. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?”
While another quipped: “Oh, so you RICH rich.”
However, it wasn’t long before criticism followed, with many pointing out the stark contrast between such opulent spending and the financial struggles faced by millions worldwide.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) remarked: “You could fix so many things in this world with that kind of money.”
Another added: “It is absolutely insane how some people experience life like this while others fight for basic resources.”
Even those who acknowledged extreme wealth were taken aback, with one person stating: “I don’t care how much money I have. billions upon billions… £46 million on a wedding is insane.”
The couple’s immense wealth comes, at least in part, from Madelaine’s family fortune.
She is the daughter of Bob Brockway, chairman and CEO of Ussery Automotive Group, which owns several Mercedes-Benz dealerships in Florida. Her mother, Paula Brockway, serves as vice president of one of the company’s branches.
Following the viral success of her wedding, Madelaine has gained a social media following, sharing glimpses of her extravagant lifestyle, including a Marie Antoinette-themed bachelorette party in Utah, designer shopping sprees, and luxury vacations.
Her husband, Jacob, maintains a much lower profile online, though the couple have since announced that they are expecting their first child.
