Ruth Langsford lifted lids on her everyday makeup and answered to fans’ questions on how to “look fabulous”, including some must-have products to fluff up her brows and lashes.
The Loose Women presenter, 65, shared her nightly routine to fresher, plumper skin last month and this week, she posted on social media to reveal her 11 steps using products from Bobbie Brown, Dior and more. But to combat her menopausal hair loss on eyebrows and eyelashes, she used Lancome mascara and Charlotte Tilbury eyebrow pen – and they are under £30 each.
Ruth sat in her dressing room and had her hair curled in rollers, saying: “I always curl my lashes because I’ve got quite pathetic eyelashes. Mascara, this is the Lancôme Hypnôse Volume-à-Porter. I think in menopause, you know, the hair got thinner, the eyelashes got a bit thinner, so everything’s getting thinner except me, sadly. Eyebrows, again, this is Charlotte Tilbury.”
Debenhams has reduced the price of the clump-free, feathery finish mascara from £30 to £24. The Lancôme Hypnôse Volume-à-Porter Mascara is designed with different length bristles to enable shoppers to coat their lashes from roots to tips easily. With every stroke, the brush wand delivers precise application and intense black colour.
One beauty fan said: “I’ve used Lancôme mascara for about 50 years. This particular one is very good, with a brilliant brush, good coverage, without clumping and excellent separation or definition. I’ve tried different brands over the years but always come back to Lancôme, the best in my opinion. Crucially, I don’t experience soreness or irritation with this product. It’s comfortable to wear, doesn’t flake or smudge and is easy to remove. Love it.”
But another was not satisfied with the result, penning: “Fine for everyday but I had to buy a different mascara for a fuller evening look. The brush is quite slim.”
Others like the mascara for delivering length and volume without looking clumpy. Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Zero Smudge Lengthening Mascara is also another fan favourite and it’s on a limited offer on Amazon at £19.68. The RapidGlam Eyelash Enhancing Mascserum by RapidLash is a 3-in-1 formula with lash serum, fibuer-infused primer and mascara to promote healthy, longer-looking lashes in six weeks. It’s available on LookFantastic for £20.
Also to combat menopause hair thinning, Ruth uses Charlotte Tilbury Brow Lift, £26, and it comes in seven shades online. The cream-wax eyebrow pencil to fill, add shape and structure to your brows and a refill is available for £17. The product stays in place for a flattering shape and works on whether it’s sparse, thick, faded or thin brows.
Brow expert BlinkBrowBar’s Ultimate Brow Arch Definer, £25, is great for shoppers who look for a soft-focus finish thanks to the oval kabuki brush on the end for easy blend and blur. The brow pencil formula is also sweat and humidity-resistant. Jones Road’s Brow Pencil, £24, in grey is another popular option for natural-looking brows.
