Millions of benefit claimants will see their payment dates changed due to two bank holidays in May. The changes will affect benefits paid by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and HMRC, and include Universal Credit and Child Benefit.
The DWP and HMRC do not process benefit payments on bank holidays, so they usually arrive on the preceding working day. The first bank holiday falls on Monday, May 5. If your benefit payment is typically due on this date, you can expect to receive it on Friday, May 2 instead. The second bank holiday will be on Monday, May 26. If your benefit payment is due on this date, it should be deposited into your account on Friday, May 23.
The amount you receive will remain the same and will be paid into your usual bank account.
However, you may need to budget carefully as there will be a longer wait until your next benefit payment, reports the Mirror.
If you were expecting your benefit and it hasn’t arrived, you can contact the DWP helpline on 0800 328 5644.
Please note this helpline is closed on bank holidays, but you can reach them on the previous working day or the day following the bank holiday.
