British Gas is set to slash electricity prices by 50% on Tuesday for customers signed up to benefit from its PeakSave Green Flex events.
The discounted rate will apply between 4pm and 6pm on June 3, thanks to an increase in renewable energy supply driven by windy and sunny conditions. Customers can take advantage of the savings by running appliances such as washing machines, lawn mowers, or air fryers during the two-hour window. Through PeakSave Green Flex events, customers can enjoy half-price electricity within a two-hour window during sunnier or windier conditions when there is more renewable energy available. The window is decided by the energy provider, and eligible customers will be emailed to opt in and take part.
British Gas sets the events using its own forecasting. The discount is available to new and existing PeakSave customers, and all savings will appear as a credit on customers’ energy bills.
Green Flex events come in addition to the energy provider’s usual PeakSave Sunday scheme, which offers half-price electricity on Sunday between 11am and 4pm.
All PeakSave customers will continue to get half-price electricity every Sunday without needing to opt in.
Who can get involved?
Households must be British Gas customers with a smart electricity meter to be eligible for the half-price savings. Customers must also register for the PeakSave scheme to take part.
New customers can book a free smart meter with half-hourly data and join the scheme here.
PeakSave was launched to reward customers for better energy usage, supporting a greener energy supply. So far, British Gas has paid over £25 million to over one million customers taking part in the scheme.
For more details on how to participate in tomorrow’s event, customers should check their emails for specific instructions and event times.
