‘I’m a book expert – these are the top 5 best beach reads this summer’ | Books | Entertainment

It’s coming up for that time of year where we’re thinking about taking a little break and picking up that hobby we don’t always have time for. It’s time to whip out that little list in your notes app and get prepping to for this summer’s reading season.

Whether you are sunning it up in lands further afield or just planning to camp out in your back garden, these are the perfect books to keep you occupied this summer.

The Compound

For those of us who are not natural bookworms… and may or may not be tuning into a certain reality dating show over the summer instead of picking up a book, this book is perfect for you. The Compound by Aisling Rawle is a mix between Love Island and The Hunger Games. The story follows Lily, a disillusioned protagonist as she joins the cast of a reality dating show on TV. Filmed in the middle of the desert, the show pairs people up for the chance to compete for wonderful prizes. Although appearing to be set in paradise on earth, everything is not as it seems.

The Compound by Aisling Rawle will be hitting our shelves on June 24.

Blue Sisters

Blue Sisters is the second novel by British author Coco Mellors and was released in spring of last year. It follows three estranged sisters who are exceptional – and exceptionally different. Avery, the eldest and a recovering heroin addict turned strait-laced lawyer who lives with her wife in London; Bonnie, a former boxer, who works as a bouncer in Los Angeles after a devastating defeat; and Lucky, the youngest, is a model in Paris while trying to outrun her hard-partying ways. The three sisters return to their family home in New York after their beloved fourth sister’s death. It’s a story of grief, identity, and the complexities of family.

All the Mothers

This is one for every person who has been messed around by a man they never cared all that much for to begin with. Domenica Ruta’s All the Mothers takes us on a journey about the trials of motherhood and found family. It is a story of a woman in her mid 30s, Sandy, who has hit rock bottom after her decade long relationship comes to an end. When she meets Justin on a dating app, she falls pregnant soon after and her life turns upside down. Sandy becomes a single mother with not much support from Justin and as the result of some serious cyber stalking, she finds that he has a baby with another woman and accidentally sends her a friend request.

All the Mothers by Domenica Ruta will be released on May 6.

Good Girl

This is the debut novel from Aria Aber, a story about the daughter of Afghan refugees and her year of self-discovery, featuring many nightclubs and some bad romance. In Berlin’s artistic underground, where techno and drugs fill warehouses still pockmarked from the wars of the twentieth century, nineteen-year-old artist Nila at last finds her tribe. But after a year of staying up all night and surviving the mistakes of youth, she begins to question who she wants to be. Aber’s debut novel was released earlier this year and has taken the book industry by storm.
