At the conclusion of Avengers Endgame, Steve Rogers went back in time to return the Infinity Stones to their different points in time. However, Captain America never returned and settled back in the 1940s married to Peggy Carter. Having aged naturally to 2023 as an old man, he hands over the shield and his superhero mantle to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, making him the new Captain America. Old Steve then disappeared, but is still expected to be alive somewhere in the MCU and apparently will play a big role in Avengers Doomsday.

Scooper MyTimeToShineHello writes: “For the multiverse to live, Steve has to die. When Steve Rogers went back in time to live with Peggy Carter, he reportedly created the incursions. Doctor Doom reportedly wants him dead in Avengers Doomsday”. Meanwhile, reliable leaker Main Middle Man tweeted a picture of old Steve and captioned it: “He will return. Tony Stark sacrificed himself for his universe. Old Steve Rogers will sacrifice himself for the entire multiverse… They’re planning for Old Steve Rogers to sacrifice himself for the multiverse, saving the worlds one last time.”
