Mum hits out at ‘entitled’ neighbour who hates to hear her ‘kids having fun’

A mum has condemned her ‘entitled’ neighbour for moaning about her children playing in the garden during the summer holidays. While she admits her youngsters can be noisy at times, she insists they’re simply “running around laughing, doing normal kid stuff”.

She ensures her children only make noise during reasonable hours to avoid upsetting neighbours – yet it appears 10am remains too early for some. Writing on Reddit, she explained: “I live in a quiet suburban neighbourhood where kids usually play outside during the day. My kids are 7 and 9 and every morning [at] around 10 AM they go out to play in our front yard running around laughing doing normal kid stuff.

“My neighbour apparently thinks 10am is some kind of ungodly hour to let kids be kids. She stormed over to my house the other day, full on Karen mode, and started complaining that my kids were making too much noise and disrupting her peace at 10am when birds are chirping and the sun is shining.”

The neighbour moaned she was battling to focus on her work due to the “racket” her children were creating outside.

Yet the mum points out her neighbour generates equally loud sounds at comparable times of day – though she never marches over to complain about it.

She continued: “Meanwhile I can hear her vacuuming and blasting her TV through the walls but hey sure my innocent kids are the problem.

“I tried to explain to her that kids playing outside is literally part of living in a neighbourhood and that 10am is not some kind of forbidden time for joy and laughter. She just scoffed and walked away like I was the unreasonable one.

“Are we seriously going to let entitled neighbours police the sound of children playing? What is next, banning laughter?”.

One user commented on her post: “When I was growing up, one of my friends on our street had a trampoline.

“We were outside after dinner on it and someone a couple doors down came to yell at us, it was about 5:30-6:00pm; sun was still shining. She wanted us to stop what we were doing because it was making her kids want to come outside too and that wasn’t allowed in their household.

“So we needed to also not be outside after dinner hours, as if her household rules applied to all houses on the street.”

Another user chimed in: “If she complains again, tell her to call the police, and have THEM tell her there’s nothing wrong with what your kids are doing.”

A third user added: “I told a kid who was shooting hoops outside my window to go home once. But it was summer in Alaska, and he was playing at 1 am. I think I was justified.”
