Dog doesn’t like rescue puppy but everything changes after sweet gesture

Adjusting to a new life with a sibling can be difficult, and the same thing goes with dogs. When Morgan Morales from Texas decided to rescue a puppy named Sunny in September 2024, her older dog, Ozzy, wasn’t too happy about it.

For months, Morgan watched as the then-four-month-old puppy tried his best to play and cuddle with Ozzy. Heartbreakingly, the feelings weren’t mutual, as Ozzy tried its best to keep its distance from the young pup.

“He liked his space from the puppy,” Morgan told Newsweek. “Ozzy has lived with two other dogs that were small before, but they were older, so this was his first puppy. Sunny did not give up, he was constantly trying to play and cuddle.”

She went on to explain that Sunny was only supposed to be a foster, after he’d been found with his siblings, malnourished and covered in ticks. However, she soon fell in love with Sunny and decided to keep him.

However, their dogs’ friendship seem to have evolved over time as Sunny appears to have carved out a very special role for himself in Ozzy’s life.

Taking to TikTok, Morgan shared a video of how Ozzy used to do his best to avoid “the puppy he didn’t want around,” before showing just how much that’s changed. Now, Sunny has taken it upon himself to watch out for Ozzy’s “bad dreams” and wake him up whenever he’s having a nightmare.

The video shows Sunny going up to Ozzy and gently licking him to wake him up whenever he seems distressed, helping escape from the nightmare.

Speaking about why Ozzy has nightmares, Morgan wrote in the comment of the video: “I dont know when I got him he had kennel trauma and lived in one 24/7 in an apt… I got him a little under 1. He’s always been a gentle anxious boy.”

However, she went on to explain that they only happen ‘once in a blue moon’, and that the video was a compilation of moments that has occured over the past eight months.

“I hated seeing Ozzy have what seemed like bad dreams, but also heard you shouldn’t wake a dreaming dog. But Sunny came in and would gently wake him up and I only assumed since they’re both dogs, they have a better understanding of each other,” she told Newsweek.

She went on to explain that it doesn’t happen every time Ozzy is sleeping, but only if Sunny thinks the dream is “getting too intense” or notices that a change in his brother’s breathing.

The video quickly genertated over 412,000 views, with several people taking to the comment section to praise the young dog.

“I wish I had a being in my life that cared about me like that,” one viewer said. A second person wrote: “There are no words for this. The empathy. The love. The connection. Earth angels. Convince me dogs aren’t earth angels.”

“I’m not crying! Your crying!” said another viewer who had gotten emotional during the video.

A fourth person said: “We don’t deserve dogs.”
