Queen Mary and King Frederik of Denmark’s eldest daughter, Princess Isabella, cut a bold, casual figure during an off-duty day with friends on Thursday, August 7. The 18-year-old royal was spotted at Smukfest, a popular music festival in Skanderborg, where her outfit quickly sparked a royal style frenzy.
Princess Isabella, who celebrated her milestone birthday in April, chose a grungy band T-shirt that drew plenty of attention. She paired the black slogan tee, which translates to “F***** Him Yesterday,” with a vibrant orange bucket hat that added a pop of colour to her edgy look.
The relaxed teen was photographed enjoying the festival with a group of friends and her 19-year-old brother, Crown Prince Christian.
Princess Isabella showed her support for Danish hip-hop group Suspekt by wearing their merchandise at the Smukfest music festival.
The group, made up of rappers Bai-D (Andreas Bai Duelund) and Orgi-E (Emil Simonsen) with producer Rune Rask, has been a major force in Denmark’s music scene since the mid-1990s.
Known for their dark, intense lyrics, often described as horrorcore — Suspekt has built a devoted fan base and a reputation for energetic, boundary-pushing live performances.
Isabella’s outfit choice raised eyebrows among some Danish commentators, with Newsau reporting political commentator Jarl Cordua as saying there are “limits” to “appropriate” royal etiquette.
With the world watching Isabella, her choice of a top featuring the slogan “F****** her yesterday” was deemed far from appropriate.
He shared: “I’m in favour of the royals letting loose a little. They always have. They should definitely be allowed to. BUT. There are limits.”
“We’ll probably live with that shirt, but I wouldn’t recommend making it a habit. Being royal is an obligation. And it’s probably time for someone to tell her [Isabella] that,” he continued.
While others threw their support behind the youngster, they explained that they welcomed seeing a royal harmlessly break normal conventions while off duty. Danish TV presenter Jim Lyngvild argued: “It shows that there is a new king who has, in many ways, an ordinary family that represents today’s values.
“The time of the ladies in the hat is over, Princess Isabella is in. I LOVE that our royal youngsters also have personality and courage – and don’t follow the neat pleated flow. There are no other princesses in the world who would dare to do that.”
