In Chinese astrology, some animal signs in the Chinese Zodiac, of which there are 12, are deemed more compatible than others.

The characteristics of each animal sign naturally align better with some other animal signs and can lead to better love matches or, worst case, sworn enemies.

Beyond the zodiac sign, the element associated with a person’s birth year (fire, water, Earth, metal, or wood) also plays a role in compatibility, including in the 2025 Year of the Snake.

According to China Highlights, three signs, including the tiger, monkey, and pig, are considered “enemies” of people born in the Year of the Snake (1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013).

Traditional readings depict such rivalries as more specific than just being blanket enemies. The friction can play out in various aspects of life, from romantic relationships to business partnerships, and can result in conflict.

It’s important to note that these so-called feuds can be overcome, according to China Highlights, which suggested that people born under the Snake sign can still build lasting and meaningful relationships with these rival signs.

Animal signs that are enemies of the Snake

Tiger

A person who associates with the Snake sign may have a romantic relationship with someone linked to the Tiger, but it can spell bad news. China Highlights claimed that when the two form a romantic relationship, “the pairing is often marked by suspicion, misunderstandings and emotional turbulence”.

Understanding each other’s perspectives and showing empathy are common issues that make an emotional connection difficult to forge. Typically, a Tiger woman who is dominant in the relationship is more “harmonious” than a Snake man who takes charge.

Non-romantic connections between the two signs, perhaps in a business setting, are also challenging. The issue of a lack of trust and sympathy makes cooperation tough.

China Highlights says this partnership “is rarely successful”, with fundamental differences preventing cohesion.

Monkey

Non-platonic relationships between the Monkey and Snake are “far from ideal” and often lack mutual understanding and trust. Though this romantic combination can work without strong efforts to build trust and goodwill, it is prone to constant friction and disagreements.

According to the Chinese travel company, a love match between a Monkey man and a Snake woman is favoured over the reverse combination to endure a more long-lasting bond.

When paired in a professional setting, the Snake and Monkey have difficulty cooperating – even if the two signs work together, they may find it hard to align their goals and strategies.

However, like their romantic relationships, business partnerships between the respective animal signs can work if both parties are willing to compromise, though they will face some obstacles.

Pig

When the Snake and Pig are in love, this is considered “one of the most challenging in the zodiac”, said China Highlights. The travel outlet said: “The two signs often experience conflict and have difficulty understanding each other’s needs and perspectives. Communication can break down, and they may find it hard to reconcile their differences.”

That said, if both parties effortlessly work through their issues, they could find stability and even achieve financial prosperity together.

In a non-romantic setting, compatibility between the Pig and the Snake is also weak. Disagreements over goals and methods can arise frequently.

However, with persistent effort and open communication, these two signs can establish a functional and prosperous business relationship, said China Highlights. Such a relationship may be tumultuous, but only if both parties work hard to overcome their differences to ensure success.
