The UK’s 10 most popular dog breeds that proves key trend – full list

A new list has revealed UK’s top ten most sought-after dogs – and one trend is reigning supreme.

An analysis by Puppies.co.uk showcased a significant trend toward smaller, adaptable breeds.

The study, which examined thousands of dog listings from January to December 2024, highlights the evolving preferences of British dog lovers.

The Cockapoo retained its title as the nation’s favourite breed, amassing 421,512 views, a staggering 81% increase compared to 2023.

Similarly, the Cocker Spaniel secured second place for the second consecutive year, with views soaring to 382,177, up by 99% from the previous year.

Larger breeds such as the Labrador Retriever (third) and Dachshund (fourth) also maintained their spots, garnering 254,209 and 242,168 views, respectively.

Meanwhile, the French Bulldog saw a remarkable rise in popularity, climbing from ninth to fifth place with 215,421 views, nearly double its 2023 count.

The data suggests a growing preference for smaller breeds, which are often considered more suitable for urban living.

The Cavapoo and Chihuahua also made strong showings, attracting 151,928 and 117,331 views, respectively.

According to Puppies.co.uk, this trend might be linked to a shift in housing patterns and lifestyles, with prospective owners seeking pets that thrive in smaller spaces.

Despite the focus on compact breeds, larger dogs remain popular. The German Shepherd ranked ninth with 143,679 views, while the Cane Corso and Rottweiler placed tenth and fifteenth, respectively. Views for the Cane Corso skyrocketed by 102%, reaching 123,062 in 2024.

In the wake of the XL Bully ban, some muscular breeds have garnered heightened attention.

A spokesperson for Puppies.co.uk said: “Following the XL Bully ban, many muscular dogs were at the centre of much publicity.

“However, any dog can exhibit aggressive behavior if not properly trained, socialized, or cared for. Whole breeds should not be unfairly judged based on isolated incidents.”
