Netflix has given fans their first sneak peek at the highly anticipated third instalment of the Knives Out series, set to premiere later this year. The streaming service teases that detective Benoit Blanc will tackle his ‘most dangerous case yet’ in the upcoming film.
Titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, audiences can expect the movie to grace their screens in Autumn, featuring Daniel Craig reprising his role as the charming sleuth Benoit.
Joining him is a galaxy of stars including Josh O’Connor (known for Challengers and The Crown), Cailee Spaeny (from Alien: Romulus and Priscilla), Mila Kunis (Black Swan) and the legendary Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction, 101 Dalmations). Jeremy Renner is also on board, albeit with a fresh character, distinct from his previous portrayal as a hot sauce brand ambassador in Glass Onion.
A Netflix-released image gives us a glimpse of O’Connor and Craig standing side by side in a church, expressions of mild astonishment on their faces. While details about the plot remain under wraps, Rian Johnson, the film’s writer and director, hinted that the film title provides a “little hint” about the narrative’s direction.
Johnson expressed his enthusiasm for the whodunnit genre to Digital Spy, saying: “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is.”
He continued: “There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”
The director has confirmed that Renner will be taking on a significant role in the upcoming film, free from any condiment bottles. “Jeremy’s a great actor who I’ve wanted to work with for a long time,” he remarked.
“I was very relieved he thought the hot sauce thing was funny! He’s playing a proper part in this one, we’ll keep the sauce off-screen. Maybe we’ll sneak a few bottles onto the catering table.”
Netflix’s sneak peek has already sparked excitement among fans, with one saying: “Let’s go. Love Daniel Craig in this role,” while another commented: “I’m just here for Benoit Blanc’s Southern charm and all the chaos in between.”
Another eager movie-goer added: “This mystery is shaping up to be the best one yet.”
The Knives Out saga began with its first film in 2019 and was followed by the sequel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery in 2022, reports Surrey Live. The third chapter, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, will release this year.
