War thriller with near perfect Rotten Tomatoes score now on Netflix | Films | Entertainment

If you are looking for a film to take over your Sunday evening, Netflix has you covered with this epic war film. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film follows a scientist who helped to develop the first nuclear weapons in World War II. Released in 2023, it took over the summer alongside another blockbuster movie, ring any bells? That’s right it is of course Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy.

The film’s sysnopsis reads: “During World War II, Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves Jr. appoints physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer to work on the top-secret Manhattan Project. Oppenheimer and a team of scientists spend years developing and designing the atomic bomb. Their work comes to fruition on July 16, 1945, as they witness the world’s first nuclear explosion, forever changing the course of history.”

The film’s starry cast included Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek and Kenneth Branagh.

The film has a near perfect score of 93% from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Their consensus reads: “Oppenheimer marks another engrossing achievement from Christopher Nolan that benefits from Murphy’s tour-de-force performance and stunning visuals.”

A top critic wrote a rave review for the film, stating: “That the director turned this most devastating of stories into a riveting pop culture phenomenon without ceding one inch on its tragic dimensions is surely an achievement for the ages.”

Another critic said: “Oppenheimer is a feat of filmmaking and might have the most on its mind of any of Nolan’s films about the state of the world, what knowledge can bring, who owns that knowledge and what the powerful do with the things we create.”

The audience rating was just behind the critics, coming in at 91%, their consensus reads: “Oppenheimer is an intelligent movie about an important topic that’s never less than powerfully acted and incredibly entertaining.”

An audience reviewer said: “Every bit as outstanding as you hope and dream. Intriguing, engaging, haunting and thought provoking. Nolan further cements his mastery!”

One person descirbed the film as a “masterpiece” with another adding: “One of the greatest movies I’ve ever seen.”

Oppenheimer is now available to stream on Netflix.
