Bathroom mirrors are streak-free when you use £1 item

There’s nothing better than cleaning your bathroom and being proud of its gleaming appearance. But sometimes, when you look at your mirrors, you can feel embarrassed they’re still quite streaky.

So, how are we supposed to actually get our bathroom mirrors gleaming and looking as good as new?

Anna, who posts as @anna_louisa_at_home on TikTok, shared that there’s something in your bathroom cupboard that you can use to clean them. And apprently, they’ll come out looking perfect.

But what is the product that you already have at home? It’s shaving foam, and if you don’t have any right now, skip the glass cleaner, and spend your £1 the beauty product instead.

In an informative video, Anna explained: “Shaving foam can clean your mirror and prevent it from fogging”.

She also shared that if you buff your taps with candle wax, water will “run straight off them,” and if you put essential oil-soaked cotton balls in your bin, it’ll smell amazing.

But if you’re wondering how shaving foam could make your mirror clean as a whistle, wonder no more.

How does shaving foam clean mirrors?

Shaving foam is surprisingly effective for cleaning mirrors, and there are a few reasons why it works so well. F

irst, shaving foam contains surfactants, which are cleaning agents that help lift and dissolve dirt, grease, and grime from the surface of the mirror.

When you apply shaving foam to a mirror and wipe it off, these surfactants break down any oily residues, fingerprints, or other marks, leaving the glass clean and streak-free.

Another key reason shaving foam is favoured for mirror cleaning is its ability to prevent fogging. When you spread a thin layer of shaving foam across the mirror and then buff it off, it leaves behind a very fine, invisible film.

This film acts as a barrier that repels moisture, which is especially useful in bathrooms where steam from hot showers can quickly fog up mirrors.

The anti-fog effect can last for several days or even weeks, depending on how often the mirror is exposed to steam and how frequently it is cleaned.

Additionally, shaving foam is easy to apply and wipe off, making the cleaning process quick and convenient. It doesn’t contain harsh chemicals that might damage the mirror’s surface or backing, and its creamy consistency means it doesn’t drip or run down the glass, allowing for even coverage.

This makes it less messy to use compared to some liquid cleaners, such as glass cleaner, which can sometimes make glass look streaky and like it hasn’t actually been cleaned in a while.

In summary, shaving foam effectively cleans mirrors because it removes dirt and oils, leaves the glass streak-free, and provides a temporary anti-fog coating. It is also gentle on the mirror’s surface and easy to use – plus it’s cheap if you don’t have any.

In the comments of Anna’s video, people said they were “running to try” the shaving foam hack for themselves.

Meanwhile, others said they “live by it”. One joked: “My brothers are always wondering why their shaving foam is running out so quickly”.
