Oasis enthusiasts may be well-versed in the band’s anthems, but they might have overlooked Noel Gallagher’s contribution to a major Hollywood blockbuster.
The iconic rockers are gearing up for their 41-date comeback tour, which kicks off this Friday (July 4th) in Cardiff, followed by a five-night stint at Heaton Park the following weekend.
Despite the 16-year hiatus since their last album, Dig Out Your Soul, Noel has kept fans on their toes with fresh tracks. Yet, many may be unaware of his behind-the-scenes guidance to Hollywood heavyweight Bradley Cooper for his role in A Star is Born.
The 2018 hit film, a modern rendition of the 1930s original, charts the tumultuous life of music icon Jackson Maine (Cooper), who falls for rising starlet Ally Campana (Lady Gaga).
Cooper’s portrayal of Jack not only captivated audiences but also landed him an Oscar nomination for Best Leading Actor, and it appears Gallagher played a part in this achievement, reports the Manchester Evening News.
In a chat following the film’s debut, Gallagher disclosed his involvement in coaching Cooper for the character.
“He used to say to me, ‘I want to get it right.’ The hardest thing in the world is pretending to be a rock star,” he shared with Q Magazine.
Gallagher even praised Cooper’s performance, remarking: “For somebody who isn’t a singer or a guitar player he carries that s*** f****** well.”
While Gallagher remained tight-lipped about the specific advice he gave, he did mention that one of his stage “moves” made it into the final edit.
His on-stage mannerisms are reflected in the film as Cooper’s character walks across the stage, bends both arms and claps twice.
The rock star reflected: “I was like, ‘That is me. That’s my patented f****** move!”
The film scooped up multiple Oscar nominations including Best Picture and won Best Original Song for its hit sngle, Shallow. Sam Elliott was recognised with a Best Supporting Actor nomination, while Lady Gaga vied for Best Leading Actress.
The movie also contended for awards in Cinematography, Adapted Screenplay, and Sound Mixing.
