NatWest is closing 25 branches in June, as many banking chains across the country struggle to keep their high-street branches open. More than 6,000 high-street bank branches have closed since January 2015, at a rate of around 53 each month, a latest analysis by Which? has revealed.
NatWest Group, which comprises NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland and Ulster Bank, has closed 1,431 branches – the most of any banking group. Lloyds Banking Group, made up of Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland, has shut down 1,321 sites. The popular bank is closing 53 of its branches this year, out of which 25 will be closed in June.
According to the bank officials, over-the-counter bank transactions fell by 62 % between October 2019 and October 2024, and mobile app usership increased over the same period by 53 %.
A NatWest spokesperson told TimesOut: “Banking has changed dramatically in recent years, with an increased demand for mobile and online services, as our customers benefit from a faster and easier way to bank.
“We know it can affect those less confident with alternatives we offer.
“We’ll always work hard to guide and support you through the changes and find the best way to serve you from now on.”
